The project
The prime objective of this research is to develop and evaluate a new concept for online clinical dosimetry of cancer patients undergoing radiotherapy with radioactive sources (so-called brachytherapy).
The key idea is to conduct time-resolved in vivo dosimetry directly in the tumor region using small luminescence detectors attached to optical-fiber cables. Significant deviations between planned and measured radiation doses will be indicators for errors or potential accidents. (more…)

The Abdominal Imaging Sections in the Department of Radiology at the University of California, San Francisco offer 10 one-year joint fellowships in Abdominal Imaging for 2011-2012. This is a new program that combines fellowship training that had previously been divided across the three affiliated sites. Fellowship time and training will be integrated across the three campuses, consisting of Abdominal Imaging at Moffitt-Long and Mount Zion Hospitals (Fergus Coakley MD, Section Chief – 22 weeks), the UCSF Veteran Affairs Medical Center (Judy Yee, MD, Chief of Radiology – 15 weeks), and San Francisco General Hospital (Mark Wilson MD, Chief of Radiology – 15 weeks).
