A PhD student position is currently available to study mechanisms involved in the development and prevention of ventilator-related tissue damage in in-vivo infant rat models.

Though artificial ventilation can be a life-saving intervention, inadequate or prolonged mechanical ventilation is known to injure lungs in a process known as ventilator-associated lung injury (VALI). The focus of this research project is to examine VALI by comparing different ventilation strategies in lung injury models (i.e. pneumonia and sepsis) that commonly result in the requirement for mechanical ventilation in human infants.
